I just popped into the PBP site and was lurking around. I went to the general talk area and looked up at the 3 headers for the other groups and saw something I don't remember seeing before.
Derbi / Metrakit / NSR50R / YSR
The natural progression from pocketbikes.
It was the natural progression thing that caught my attention and the fact I hadn't noticed it before doesn't change what I think now. Maybe I'm being to sensitive but to me that's a slap in the face to Mid guys. OK the bike's are engineered better and cost more money, but in my opinion that might put them over the Mid's but by saying they're the natural progression that means to me they are the only sensible option and anything else is shizzle. I wonder if anyone over there notices that that section will go a week or more without a new post. At one point the Mid section was so busy it was almost a chat room. I think it will get to the point those things (NSR YSR) will be to expensive for a lot of people to race and they'll fall back to us. Meaning eventually it will be a fall up. I've seen a few Honda NSR's and Yamaha YSR's and I wasn't too impressed. They are no better in my opinion than what we're on. They are made of better grade materials, but so what! We can buy three Mid's and race prep them for three different classes for the price they pay for one of their's (Race prepped). motorbike
OK I'm done ranting. There are still good people over there but the mindset is what's going to kill the place.

Yeah i've notice that section.I'd pop in from time to time but with all the dust and cob webs constantly building up.I had to stop checking that section.Buy the time you buy the bike then invest money into it to make it track worthy. That's a real bike you could have bought. Here's how i see it.One you don't see any metrakits running in the motogp 125cc class nor will you see any ysr or nsr that these guys are riding. The 125cc ysr's and nsr's look nothing like their so called counter parts. So to me that make them nobodies.

Call me and wheels Prophets...I'll take it. PBP is, or at least the mid-section, dying a slow wheezing death. I go to see what's up and it's pathetic thumb_down

i think that those dam pocket bikes are a money pit i had a goped and a pocket bike for a little and they keep braking constanly its pothedic and its kinda silly to be riding somin that small cause it looks so stupid and it herts my jewels and another thing why do they think that were not evolving there is so many more things u can do with a mid bike than a domb 2 stroke 80cc or what ever and they look so much better than the tiny things i think were moving along fast like pbp there just getting old were here and mmp are kickin like bulls i think they just know that there falling behind and were passing them like a fence post

That site has been dead for a long time... I pop in from time to time and help answer questions that some of the newbie’s have, but other then that it is dead.
Going on to the "The natural progression from pocketbikes" comment... yeah it might be a rude comment for them to say, but I don't agree with what you all just said about the NSR...
I've seen a few Honda NSR's and Yamaha YSR's and I wasn't too impressed. They are no better in my opinion than what we are on. They are made of better grade materials, but so what!
The YSR is a dino... it is going dead just as fast as the PBP ysr section!!! It was the bike to race back in the day, but now with all the new stuff out there to race that handles better and just as cheap, I don't know why you wouldn't start with something else. So, yeah I owned a YSR and modified the hell out of it, and it isn't anywhere near as fast as my NSR when it was stock.
On to the Metrakit... it is a little over-priced for me, and for an adult to ride/race it you have to do a bunch of suspension tweaks and get use to the tight ergo's that it has... it is more for a 10yr old kid then a 30yr old "big kid". I've ridden a few of them and didn't care much for them at all; if I was a 10yr old it would be a different story! cool_shades
Now the NSR... If you haven't been impressed with a NSR, then you haven't really looked at them and seen the HUGE difference in them then one of your Mid's. It is apples to oranges we are talking about. Have you rode a NSR before, I assume you have?? Yes they are hard to get power out of them, but if you know how to keep the revs up, then they scoot. It isn't a 4stroke where you can make a mistake and make up with it with a simple twist in the wrist.. the 2stroke NSR is great for keeping you honest and keeping your speed up in the corners where corner speed is KEY!!!
We can buy three Mid's and race prep them for three different classes for the price they pay for one of their's (Race prepped). motorbike
WHAT??? There is no way that is possible! You can get a NSR (if you look hard enough) for $1200!!! Add gas and go.. It will be just as good (if not better) then a modified mid. (with equal rider skills).
think it will get to the point those things (NSR YSR) will be too expensive for a lot of people to race and they'll fall back to us. Meaning eventually it will be a fall up.
What is expensive on them to race? Nothing... the tires maybe? I raced my NSR for 2yrs straight with no issues and just putting a new top end (piston kit) at the start of the season. Piston kits are cheap... $100 and you are done! Bodywork might be expensive if you crash on it. Take it off if you don't have money to get new stuff or know how to fix it or buy some frame sliders.
Even with me putting all the mods on my NSR it wasn't that expensive.
If you have raced big bikes before (600's, 1k's ect.) then you'll know that the cost of racing one of these is almost funny! I'll spend more racing my R6 in one weekend then racing my NSR all season!!!
Let’s just put it this way; YSR's, NSR's, Metrakits, Derbi, Mid bikes, ect.. Are all somewhat in the same family. Some cost a little more then others, but you get what you pay for and I paid for a race bike, and got just that without having to modify it to make it track worthy. I've been there and done that with my old ass YSR50 (I'll put a YSR in somewhat the same class as a Mid, just because it is/was a street bike that was then turned into a race bike). I put a ton of money into that bike, and it hasn't even compared anywhere near what my NSR is like today. I wish I started on a NSR then an YSR.. I'm sure some of you might say the same thing in the future??

Point's well made Fire thumbsup2 My rides on a NSR where limited to a parking lot and maybe that's why I have the impression I do. To tell the true I wrote that after being slammed by a Metrakit jukie in a PM. I'm also dis-enchanted with the 1:1 club scene where riding your bike to the track and racing it is a dino. You've got people (Junge Howard Batey) in semi-trailers showing up and cherry picking the races. A guy who works for let's say UPS (You know who you are cool_shades)and rode all night in his van to race has a hard time even winning tire or gas money let alone breaking even. He has a great time but when the bills keep slapping you it wears the guy down. Would I race a NSR? Yeah if it had a 4 stroke Lifan or GPX in it.

i thought the natural progression ment the size of the bike , as the nsr's and metrakits are larger than the mids

I have to say that I personally love the NSR's. I kinda wish I would have just bought a NSR instead of a mid. But since all of the school/work complications I'm having I'm not regretting it that much anymore, since I'm not building a race bike now.
