The episode on fifth gear has the xtr4 which has the audi turbo engine. The episode on top gear has the xtr2 which has the hayabusa engine. I looked at the xtr4 yesterday on fifth gear and it beat a gsxr1000 around the track by 1.1 second.

As they say third times a charm! after going to the junk yard yesterday looking for a rear end to convert the civic to RWD I came across an mr2 an realized there was a TON of room in the motor compartment, so i searched craigs list an ebay an ended up picking this up today. Im 99.9999% sure the hayabusa motor will be going in this.

btroxl
07-19-2010, 03:09 PM
as to weather or not its going to be to heavey its only 400lbs heavier than the civic, it weighs 2600ish. stock it was only 130 hp an the busa motor stock is 175hp 95 ft/lbs torque. si I think it will be ok for now but I DO plan on adding a turbo once the car is up an running an the bugs have been worked out. thebusa motor will handel up to 350 hp on stock internials an up to 750hp with MAJOR motor work.... 300-350 is what im going to shoot for.

I would put the turbo to the left of the motor. Build the hood around everything with a small functional scoop. Stick the NOS bottle in the front.

btroxl
07-25-2010, 05:47 PM
theres plenty of room for 2 50# nos bottels in the trunk compartment right behind the motor. as for the turbo I'd realy like to buy a pre made package rather than build my own set up.

Yeah I see them all the time on line MR2 1300 busa turbo kit LOL. Most Bussa turbo kits the turbo hangs on the front and the exhaust dumps out the right front of the fairing.

I'm unhappy with the rear mount an will be redoing it, but the motor now is suspended in the car on its own an ever thing lines up nicely. Also found out my tube welding skills arnt the best, but I'm sure they'll get better with time, I have good penetration but there not the best cosmetically.

i was wondering how that was gonna work
how bout replacing the steering wheel with a small set of handle bars with a throttle grip :D oh nvm i just realized big turns would be hard

btroxl
08-31-2010, 03:38 PM
yes both trannys will work. 30 forward gears, 6 reverse! but honestly I think it going to be pick a gear in the car trans an then just use the bike trans for on the go shifting. Not 100% sure how its going to work out but we'll see.

pulled the rear subframe an finished welding ever thing, then trough some primer on it (after an hour of cleaning) got ever thing re-installed in the car but it looks like I have to loosen the subframe an push it forward 1/32" as my rear mount holes dont line up. was just to tired to mess with it anymore today.
Also instaled the oil pan an block off plates on the motor.

uummmm maybe. the chain im going to use has a 11,000 lb tensil strength an the shaft is 4140 cm with bearing suport. the weekest link if i planed it right is the alum flange adapter on the motor. should work ok just might not be able to do 10k rpm launchesspeechless33

well I wasnt even able to make it around the block with the car as the clutch just slipped like crazy so I got it back in the garage an let it sit for a bit the went out an swaped the stock clutch springs for some 60# ape springs. the stock spring is on the right in the pic. I dont know what im going to do once i hook the turbo up as I can still slip the clutch a littel with the heaviest springs they make for this motor! may have to put a lock up clutch in it...

may take it for a longer ride once the oil cooler is hooked up, I didnt have 2 fitting i needed to hook it up an was inpaitent so its bypassed for right now.. (fittings are on order.)

brian, now that youve done this car, is there any other ways you thought about mating a bike motor in a car, more effeciently, like with only 1 tranny, or is the 2 trannys method really the best?

btroxl
05-12-2011, 08:15 PM
2 transmisions is the cheapest way to get reverse. otherwise your looking at around $5-$7k for a forward neutral reverse box that can handel the power an weight. The one thing I would do if I were to do it again is eliminate the chains (will be doing this on the mr2 in the future) the cains that can handel the power/weight are $300+ each an are alot of headaches, Im going to build a gear box to go between the bike motor an car trans then go for big HP.
The stock busa motor is good up to 340hp an we think im in the 300+ range at the motor. Ill put a set of rods, pistons, cam gears, cylnder spacer plate, secondary injectors an turn the boost up enough for 500-600 hpthumbsup2 this coming winter.
