View Full Version : LEGAL X18 w/ Yoshi TRS Tri <--
Here's my street legal X18 i just made a purchase on yesterday. So far, i took off the yoshi to rebuild the mounting system if no one buys it and it definitely needs to be taken down from the top with everything stripped including the engine. I plan to keep this build low key, nice, and simple. Also, no video i ever make will do this yoshi justice... It sounds like a Harley and you will piss yourself if you rev this thing half way... lol, no joke.
From what i can see, the mods are as follows:
Real Yoshimura trs tri-oval exhaust pipe with awesome mounting
22mm Mikuni carb
HP air filter
Rear Maxxis 130-70/10 tire (Thanks Brian)
Modded halogen headlight
Frame sliders
Aftermarket grips with sliders
Aftermarket spike bolts
Bling mirrors rock2
Has been street legalized and meets all requirements to be street legalized agian
Note, i am willing to part with the Yoshi if the price is right... It'll in the classifieds (http://midbikenation.com/showthread.php?p=45021#post45021)

your gonna want to relocate the sliders and bolt them to the 'arms' that bolt to the upper plastics, the way they are now, they wont help at all when the thing goes down.
I'll be getting to work on the bike this morning, i'll try to reinvent the mounting system with a solid bracket and better mounthing
I'll also be giving it frequent start-ups since the engine seems a bit cold
Tighten and lube the chain and suspension, redo the front brakes, tighten up the peg mounts, possibly relocate the sliders, take off all fairings, give it a good cleaning, throw in an NGK and do an oil change
I don't know how hard it will be to take off the fairings to do a good check-up so that could probably wait

You don't need to start up the bike every week just cause its winter and has to be stored. Just drain the gas tank and give it a little grease on any bearings, oil change and store it for as long as you want. Then when spring or summer comes around, your ready to ride off. It won't hurt the engine not being started in a while. Oh your bike looks dirty from the pics, give it a good wash with the pressure washer, just don't get too close with the nozzle or your gonna ruin wires and scratch any paint up.
Taking off the fairings is very simple. If you don't know how to do that or think thats hard, then your in a world of hurt with your bike.

Alright, sounds great. I'll give it a good cleaning with the hose and wipe everything done good. And I know how to take off the fairings, I just want to make sure I have a good cause when I do it this morning because the way these were put together, im sure everyone agrees with me when i say we don't got tiny ass hands like that bluelaugh

From what guys who have X18's say those fairing attachments suck cheese! Blitz has a write-up showing how to make it easier once you've changed out fasteners. If you do store it for the winter. Drain the oil and put in some fresh oil. I use some cheap stuff because when I take it out I just drain it again and add in good stuff. There's no telling what's in the oil when it was sold too you? The biggest worry is the carb stuck at one point and flooding the cylinder. Then gas leaked down into the oil and it was never changed. Stock carbs are famous for the float bowl sticking. And use a battery tender.

once you get a real motor that stock headpipe wont be good anymore

I totally agree Blitz. PBU cost a few more bucks then just getting a crf pipe and hacking and welding it on, but PBU pipes are litterly bolt right on.... They sound great and really perform. I dint like the extra costs thoughthumb_down

The thermos was to loud use to hurt my ears with my current motor. But it would of out performed your yoshi though.thumbsup2
Now your actually gonna race your X18 now? Or just race it on the streets?( Not taking a shot at your or nothing) Just want to warn you with that can being so close to the seat. When you go to make righthand turns and lean off of that bike. Your gonna end up sitting on a HOT yoshi. So if your gonna race road course becareful.wave_finger

Oh ok, i thought you were talking about your $10 Thermos you slapped on your X7 bluelaugh And i don't doubt your drilled out morning coffee cup was hella loud wave_finger (Not taking a shot at your or nothing)
And the bike is not really in the condition to be raced just yet, i'll be taking a look at some other engines because there is no replacement for displacement thumbsup2 However, with the yoshi, 22mm mikuni, and filter, it really does open the engine.

Anyway there isnt ANYWHERE to race out here... So you got to do with what you got. A pack of guys with dirt bikes and a few mids... raceing doesnt alway have to be on a closed course(sometimes I wish I was on a closed course though.) You got to do with what you got, cause if I could only drive on a closed course my bike would just be a garage queen.

Oh no Homie it was loud. But ok ok i know you love that yoshi.LOL Well if your gonna go bigger i hope not by much. Because your current exhaust system will not do much for performance on a bigger motor. That yoshi was designed for 50cc 4strokers. Won't do nothing but handi cap a bigger motor. I like yoshi too chief but if you want performance sometimes you gotta look past the name when it comes to these little bikes and go with what works.
If your gonna race road course you gotta ways to go to get that bike to be really competitive on the track though. All that shiny stuff will have to go.
On the bright side if you keep your exhaust mounted that way.On the cold trackdays days you'll stay nice and warm. While i would have to pull over in the pits to have a hot drink from my thermos.LOL Who needs a concession stand when you can have Hot buns and hot drinks while you race.bluelaugh
Hey bri theres tracks you can race at you just need to see if your parents will be willing to drive to them so you can get your racing on.thumbsup2

Brian you can't just turn 16 and BOOM I can drive anywhere. Im pretty sure this applies to Chicago too but you get your permit at 16. So that means you gotta have a parental guardian with you at all times (unless you want to take an illegal drive to Virginia). Then with the old van or truck you gotta buy the vehicle, fix up whatever needs to be done (if anything). And then all these fees just start piling up, like registration, maintenance, and so on. Insurance is also pretty expensive for us minors... Then depending on your state, when your 17 you can probably go to these races legally..
I know I'm being a total buzz kill (sorry) but I had the same mentality as you when I went to get my permit back in September and then I slowly realized all this after.

You would have to be 18 an over. Besides man you don't wanna be driving by yourself at that age for sucha long distance. Plus i think in certain states it's against the law for minors to be driving un-supervised on the highway( even with a license) for long distances crossing state lines.I believe( i forget the specifics)
