i bought an x15 locally a couple months back and weather was finally nice enough to start tearing it apart, what i noticed is mine is different from the usual ones that i see around. i was told that it was a 2006 model but can anyone verify it thanks.

alright big update, just got my x7 farings yesterday and started to mount them today. i call it the ziptye queen, but thats just temp. also fivestar if you want to run the lower farings you have to ditch the stock kick stand and trim the farings to fit. pics will be up tomorrow. ps another big thanks to rene for getting to me some nice partsthumbsup2

yeah, thats why i dont run the lowers.
Here are some tips for mounting the x7 plastics.
Tail of the frame will need to be cut, need to make a bracket to bolt the seat on (the x7 frame is skinnier, so you will have to do a lil engineering) the "arms" will have to be removed, The tank will sit funny, so you must make sure that you have that lined up properly before you make the seat bracket. You can do some cutting to the tank to get it to sit a little lower. The x15 gastank wont line up with teh x7 tank cover, so you must either cut a hole in the tank cover, or take the tank cover off to put gas in it. The tail section will be interesting for you, good luck finidng a way to bolt that up. The nose section should aslo be supported, otherwise it will rattle and crack. The exhaust pipe will aslo get too close to the plastics and melt them, so you must cut a slot so the pipe has some room, The x7 tail wont fit on perfect, sice the x7 frame is skinnier than the x15, so you will have to either cut some of the plastic, or do something to make it fit properly. and if running the stock pipe, it will need to be modified, since you have to cut the tail a bit, you will then need to make a bracket to hold the cans on.
I just ask one thins: to not copy what i have done. I would like to see how you figure out the task. As far as i know, your the 3rd person to try this, the first one only zip tied the plastics to the frame, I actually did some cutting welding to make it truely fit, so i'm curious to see how you go about it.
oh and lets see some pics
Orange bike: Crap, noting more than zipties
My bike: good. Nice brackets and work put into it. (but this pic is before i made the brackets)

yeah i did a lot of cutting too what i plan to do is cut off all of the mounting brackets and reweld them so i can just bolt the plastics on except my tail which sits a bit more foward than yours and is held on with ziptyes. plus im gonna ditch my stock kickstand soon and just get the x18 one. thanks for all the help tho and the picks make it all the sweeter

you cant really just cut and paste the 15 brackets to make them fit for the 7 plastics, i thought the same thing, when it all comes down to it, making new custom brackets is the best way to go.
(unless you wanna look like the orange bike)
And i'm not sure how your tail can sit more forward than mine, cus the seat needs to be hooked under the gastank, and the tail can only get so close behind the seat (and mine is as far forward as it will go)

well if you guys were really badazz you would get them lowers on there
look at swheels bike how the whole body flows, without the lower it looks like a knife edge
so you gotta cut a few things maybe, youve already done plenty, so just seal the deal, i challenge thee

if i had the lowers, they woudl be on my bike.
But i think i could use that money for other things (unless someone can find a cheap set of the lowers)

sounds like the perfect aluminum body panel test for you
but ya i guess spend the money on stuff you need to be competitive
although ride skill has to be <50% of the factor that makes you fast
so practice

ghost, ya man, props to you for reppin the real look
cept you got a 18 and thats way easier than the 15 i bet, cause the 15 is wider and they will have to cut off the lower body mounts, and figure out how to anchor the panels in place

Yup. I know a decent way of bolting on the lowers, and if i did get them, i would not have them bolted to the upper, just to make things easier when you take off/on plastics
and you would have to cut quite a bit off the lowers, and from what i can think, there really wouldnt be much left of them when its all done.
But an Allu lower would be a really fun challange, and i could make the bottom nice and pointed, and have a belly catch pan. I've never worked with raw alluminum though, how is its flexability compared to the same size thickness as tin or some other similiar metal?

You won't have a problem fitting the lowers on the X15 if you already cut the cradle. Not bolting the lowers to the side fairings will leave room for some serious vibrations.
It's real easy, since the lowers are in 2 half. You bolt each half to the side fairings first. Then try closing the gap underneath alittle. You can start from the front underneathe then leave rest so it foms a triangle.^ I usually cut a majority of the bottom out.1 because my exhaust heats up some part of it and melt it.2 I don't have to take any parts of the fairings off to change the oil.thumbsup2 Oh and cut those ugly little cheese grading vents out.LOL I think those are the only thing that ruins the look of the fairings.Besides it makes it easier to change the spark plug too with the right tools.

Wow, that looks great! One of the best x7 swaps I've seen on a 15.

Wow that looks amazing...I'm shocked that the x15 seat looks/fits nicely with the x7 body. Have you found a place to get the headlights/windshield from? If not i think the best price for it is through scooterparts4less.com

well there has only been three bluelaugh
Its looking nice, You are gonna want to make some windscreen stays, otherwise that nose will be flopping around in the wind. and even more so when you get the lights and windscreen on there.
and now i know what you mean about your seat being up closer, the way mine is, its about 3-4" back. I like it way back, allows me to tuck real easy, and put pressure on the back of the bike during turns. And i do agree that it makes the bike flow (if only it didnt have the huge "blocks" above the rearsets) But since i'm going the race route, dont need to spend money where its not needed. (and if i can get my hands on a ysr, i doubt my bike will be around for long)
