Picked up a pos x15 relatively cheap, but not a "steal" like some of you folks get, Thought it would be a fun project.

And here's an x-8 frame i let my brother-in-law have, He already lowered it/primer seat and the plan for that is to fit the motor on the swingarm once it's extended.(His idea)crazy_smilie

Go head and take the rest of those screws out. get the stripped ones last.
Once I did that, I got my small pair of vise grips and locked them on the screw and they came out with no problem. The stock bolts suck.

I tried.... knew i was going to strip then asked my dad to bring home his impact screw driver, and still stripped... moved on and stripped the next one... So i stopped there. Since I'm only taking it off to paint the rim Ill just tape it up.
And feel free to share your opinion on a rim color choice, Should I leave the chrome lip and clean it up as much as possible or go all one solid color??

It never ceases to amaze me the condition we get these bikes, and what they get turned into. Have you ever tried RustOleum Professional paint? It is $5 a can, but thats what I used when I restored my scooter. Turned out better than any other rattlecan job I've done. Also, when finished if you invert the can and spray until paint stops, the nozzle stays way cleaner. Next time you use it, sprays better because it clogs less(maybe you knew?) Looks great man.thumbsup2

well, i'm holding off on painting the frame right now, i still have some work to do, i made a set of windscreen brackets last night, but they turned out like dooty, so i'm gonna try them again later.

but when i do paint it, i'm gonna use flat paint instead of gloss
but if i'm gonna keep my plastics black, i'm not gonna paint it.

Just so you know Five, flat will mark up any place you rub anything against it.

CDI was the problem.... I got it to started today, muffler isn't fully on(fully connected to the other piece), and i still need to put a hose clamp to connect the two pieces. Ima adjust the idle screw and tune the carb tomorrow, This is the first time I hear the engine run, give it the benefit of the doubt as I was told it was let to rust out in the rainbluelaugh It currently sounds a little better than in the vid btw

what should be the first consideration on how to make this bike a little faster

FiveStarSky
04-22-2009, 10:12 PM
um.. after fuel lines, filter, oil, all the "basics" i would go a carb, then sprocket, then pipe

I just rode it a little today... no brakes so for the most part i stayed out of 3rd and 4th (okok i went into 3rd/4th once) and 1st gear seems pretty choppy , but it gets better when i shift up. And I have to consitently give it some gas and choke it up, any ideas...?? I have noo clue about these kinda carbs:dunno:

BMArias15
04-23-2009, 04:02 PM
yo you gotta play with that idle screw (the one with the spring next to the a/f screw and gas nipple inlet).... nice to see the bike runningthumbsup2... apart of me is still sad bout letting that baby go since i wanted to build eventually even tho it was gonna be a mission and a half...

ActBAD ok
04-23-2009, 04:40 PM
more like two missions and a half!! yeah for some reason my kick start has gotten soft and only engages sometimes(it still starts and runs)... this is annoying, i want the bike to start on first kick... and i screwed in the iddle screw all the way and to keep the bike running i need to leave the choke half up, but i'm happy with it

LOL, i know my brother in law said it sounds like a 2stroke aswell..... you can notice the 4 stroke sound presence a tiny bit more though.... but if i heard this thing running infront of my house i would think it would be a 2 strokebluelaugh

04-23-2009, 08:37 PM
you need to take the carb apart and clean it, the idle jet and pilot are prolly dirty, use a needle to poke through the small holes in there, flush with gas and put it back together, it will be better im sure

ActBAD ok
04-24-2009, 06:57 PM
the carb is clean :dunno:

Blitz$M.Inc.$
04-24-2009, 07:16 PM
if you have to leave the choke half up for it to stay running, then the motor is getting too much air or not enough fuel
well its not getting too much air if the parts are mostly stock, the problem is not enough fuel
so when you cut down on the air, it is then enough to run
so why not enough fuel?
kinked lines? dirty carb? non vented gas cap? vacuum is king here, are any ports blocked or clogged?
lots of potential stuff

ActBAD ok
04-24-2009, 07:29 PM
my guess is the kruddy gasline/ filter.. i have a filter on hand but i plan to change it once i get some 1/4th gas lines
