View Full Version : what type of pipe material for a custom exhaust

ok so i finaly got my 1-1/4'' pipe bender off ebay, and i got my muffler from ashar014. so i was wondering do i need to buy a specific type of pip for the exhaust or can i just get like emt or a carbon steel pipe?

conduit kinks real easy with sharp bends... I'd suggest plain ole steel pipe, 1/16"... 1 1/4" is pretty big, I don't think it will fit in the head with a flange for the gasket... 1" with a flange is about max plus your exhaust valve and port are no where near 1 1/4".....With that large of pipe you will loose torque and low end power.... With your 110 I'd go with 7/8" i.d max at the head and then maybe step it up to 1" mid way to the muffler.... Just my twocents

aaahh. ok thats what i really wanted to know. if i would loose power and if the pipe size was way off, i still havnt pulled off the valve head for the polish project so im not sure what diameter im looking at as far as the exhaust outlet on the head. thanks man.

Your stock head should be 23/20 so the exh valve will be 20mm or approx 3/4"

gocha so the max i can bore the opening to is 7/8ths approx?

you can physically go to 1" but I'd suggest 7/8" max with the stock head... If you do a BBK and BVH then step it up to 1"....
