View Full Version : B1 Immortal Custom Build

Well, after hitting a few forums, I came accross this one. Got a warm welcome from shooter and the nutty professor. Sooooo, here's some background. After asking questions on another forum(s). The bike I have as I've come to know is a B1 Immortal 4 spd manual bike. The condition you see is the condition I got it in. No fairings, rear wheel fubar'd, needs a front tire, needs a chain. The rear foot pegs are welded...yes welded to the swingarm. I'd like to get a new swingarm, make one, or most cost effective (ha, whats that term) cut them off and put the real deal on there.

Shooter brought a great idea to me, something that I'm researching on midbikes and fullsize as well, as I'm not versed in that end of the bike realm. street fighter style. A couple pictures later, I'm hooked. I'm finding it hard to find fairings for this bike, so most everything will be from a different bike, or custom made. Fine by me lol. I build 1:1 trucks for myself and friends (see pics of my truck below)

the bike as I got it:

Here's the rear wheel I got from ebay. from an x15:

http://i7.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/fc/ea/8c17_1_sbl.JPG

Obviously will need help with a rear braking system. I plan on polishing the heck out of the wheel.

I'm a huge fan of billet...anything. Not overly done. But I want a good looking bike in the end. Some billet hear and there (grips and levers are what I've found so far).

I dig the street fighter style. love how shooters frame and swingarm looked 1st go-around in his thread. Might do something similar. Planning on blowing the bike apart to get the frame ready for paint, polish as much as I can. The plus side is the bike fires on the first kick (no electric start, but the button is there and so is the wiring haha). Also idles great!

and here's my truck:

I'm going to not only ride the heck out of this bike, but strap it into the bed of the sonoma and take it to shows to ride around. :)

thats a good looking truck, you captured the look just right without over doing it, nice, clean and simple... Very nicely done...thumbsup2

I'd do the bike to match the truck, same colors and flames....

you may get away with doing an x7 body on that frame, of course you'll have to make all the mounts and weld them on...an x12 body may be a close fit too.... either one should go on without too much hassle...

I have a new x1 wheel and tire that will fit the front if you don't go with an x15 frt wheel...

Personally I'd get a matching x15 frt wheel, I never cared for those bikes with the mismatched wheels, looked like someone just threw them together with spare parts...

Putting a rear disc and caliper on it will be easy, you can get complete hyd brake kits off ebay for around $60....

Thanks for the compliments on the sonoma. I appreciate it. Ya, even though it being more subtle has probably kept it from getting a paper magazine feature, thats ok by me. As I've told a lot local guys that get fed up building stuff and dont get featured, I go by the "build it for yourself and no one else" motto.

I'm with you on the X15 front wheel, I think that would certainly look the best. This would fit correctly? I'm assuming so though. I'm searching ebay for the rear hyd. kit now. :D

Thanks! I appreciate it. lol. ya, thats what my buddy andrew who gave me the bike said. He said "I'm mostly giving it to you because your a nut and cant leave anything alone" hahah.

Oh lots of show and tell. I have my camera here with me at work, it's now with my stuff I take home every evening so it's at the house with the bike lol

ya, the guys on S10Forum love pictures. when I did my winter project (new wheels, and interior paint/billet/chrome) they wanted pics before I got the parts in hahah. I have an album on my myspace as well as photobucket that I'll constantly update with all progress so I can post it on here asap.

Ahhhh gotcha. Ya, brake cleaner and some degreaser and lots of elbow grease and sanding/polishing will commence. I'm taking one section at a time.

Any suggestions on the peg/swing arm status for the rear?? I wonder if an x15 swingarm would fit?

Ya, I'm thinking of working with what I have now, beefing it up. I do have access to basically any tool/machine I want or need between my friends fathers welding/metal fab shop. I have a good amount of tools myself, need to do some basic organizing of them before the weekend. we (fiancee and I) just moved into our house. the bike was a "house warming gift" haha

I also pondered the idea of making my own tank/tail piece out of metal. Doing it the old school way, english wheel style and such. SinCity choppers is a local chopper place to me, i help them every year at our version of World of Wheels at the Cincy Convention Center (now called Duke Energy Center) in Cincinnati. Might stroll over there after work and see what they'll let me fiddle with.

yep that should work, just have to make new spacers and you may have to shim out the caliper to match up to the rotor.....

Heck I put 10" x6 wheels on my son's cateye with a 125cc 4 stroke so building that Immortal will be a piece of cake...

There's a shop in my area that has a few of them brandnew. But they don't sell parts for them. Then to make matters worst there old bikes That they know they can't get the parts for and still want to sell them for brandnew prices.

I've always wanted one before they were availible in this country.I almost got 2 really cheap. The i was hooked up with company took to long to give me the shipping info so i told them to forget it.They were starting to be imported into the U.S. all ready. I was eager to get my hands on them first. The first ones were 70cc 4 strokes.

well in planning the build. It will indeed be a street fighter style bike, with the tank piece being painted pewter metallic with silver flames, striped to match my real truck.

Keeping with the billet/flame/paint theme, I'm going to get these:

http://www.davesmotors.com/store/media/rr95xbilletflamegrips.jpg to use. In the polished version. Granted I'll still ride the heck out of this of course.

We dont have the 'net at my house setup yet, our cable company made me very angry, enough that I called and b*#ched and got a free dual DVR box hahah.

Also getting a 420 chain w/masterlink from ashar014 for $10 shipped.

so once i get the chain, I'll be able to take it for a test ride. I'm going to get the tail section mocked, secured and on the frame, put the chain on and take it for a trial run, feel the bike out, then it's teardown time!

So I guess I'll find me a new wheel and utilize the disc and tire from this one.

Looking like sunday it'll get torn down and started on finally!

Well getting back to the bike, is that the stock shifter?? I'd look for a long pitbike shifter and flip it around backwards...

Shoot it's quite alright bro. I prolly should have asked for a picture to see the condition of it moreso before I laid down the cash money for it. I'm going to PM him and email him to see if we can do something about it. Your rep/opinion always and has been one of them that I listen to the most. :D I shoulda opened it up when i got it in, but had so much going on with house and truck stuff (new tires and brakes haha)

I believe it to be the stock shifter, I def. think I'm going to do that.

Welcome to the Sucker Club moon1
I screwed myself too with a sprocket I bought, although I requested pictures I didn't get any and went through with the purchase anyway. The seller didn't know how to count (teeth) and I bought by being misled and being told and thinking it was something else. I'm stuck with it now as it turned out to be a pity purchase banghead.
Some of us learn from the school of hard knocks I guess.
I know we'll know better next time to get lots of pics and maybe some history before we fork over our hard earned money and take it between the cheeks moon1
It's too bad people gotta be this way.

prob not a direct fit but with some modding I'm sure you can.. I'd suggest an x19, the x18 are pretty cheesy with the end cut out like it is for the axle, pretty weak in that area where the x19 isn't open on the end and is more solid... Just my twocents

It's the x19/15's that are questionable.dunno

Either way i think any of them will work with some modding.

S your right, I was thinking of my x12 swingarm, it's closed on the end and not slotted all the way....I was seeing it in my head but I put the wrong X bike with it LOL...

All the x18 swingers I've seen the slot on the end looked all crushed and twisted from being cut to the end....

Your also correct on the x15 and x19 swingers, they all crack near the shock mount, my x19 was cracked plus the shock mount is welded in crooked from the factory... I was gonna cut it out and weld it in straight but I couldnt get to the welds inside the side rails to cut them so I just ground the crack out, welded it back up and threw a little more weld from the rail to the shock bracket, hopefully it holds up...

depending on how wide the pivot tube is on each bike the tube on the x18 or x12 swinger may either need to be cut down or more than likely cut out and a wider tube welded in.. The other thing will be the shock mount location...Those will be the two major mods to make it work, not a big deal though...

If your able to take a pic of the swingarm pivot area. This would help. But i'm williing to bet your swinger has a solid tube design.Which would make it perfect to adapt the x18 swinger.I suggest the x18 swinger because its a solid tube vs the newer x19/x15 which has a left and right 3'' to 4'' tube on each side not solid.I'll post a pic in a few.

Let the record show that i do think the x15/19's have the best looking swingarm. And i will be putting one on my bike after i feinforce it and honeycomb it.

From my garage LOL.... I build my own stretched swingers.... They ride good, you can definately feel the difference, not good for road course but for straight line racing and just cruising they are great...

Here is the one I built for my x12 and one that I started for my son's cat but will be going on Miguels cat instead..

if thats the case why are most dirt bikes sq? For a PB these tubes are plenty strong enough, the only way they are gonna bend is jumping off a big hill or something.... For a cruiser or drag bike they will hold up plenty strong...If I thought they were unsafe you think I'd put them on my kids bikes? not a chance..

I'd put one of mine up against those POS that pbu sells any day..

well round tube looks better for rails LOL... Most chassis cars have boxed main frame with round tube roll cage... For a drag car or a cage yeah I'd definately want round tube, no question asked there....I wish I had a way of flattening long lengths of round tube to make teh swingers from, more like the x12, x18 style swingers.. I can flatten short sections in my Dad's antique vise to splice in a swinger but not any real length to make a one piece side rail....
The new swinger I'm starting for my son's 125 cat is gonna be 1" x 1.5" rectangular steel... started on that the other night until I got a metal fragment in my eye, had to get that removed thurs morning banghead

another nice choice for forks is the X6 4 stroke frt end, heavy duty shafts, long.... Depending on how long the B1 forks are the x12 are nice too, they are pretty HD but are shorter than the x16 and x18 forks..

For serious racing I'd go with the pit bike USD forks like you did Nutty, those look so awesome, wish I had a set for my x19 (x15) since they look really close to the 1:1 Benelli and thats the look I'm going for but for $300 or so I'll have to stick with the stock ones LOL..

Forks, trees, bar clamps from an X6, x15 or x19 will work... The trees from an x18 wont work as they have bushings and wheel bearings in the neck unlike your frame that has bearing cups and bearings like bicycle....

Measure the length of your forks from the top of the tube to the center of the axle hole and I'll compare that to the various forks I have to give you some measurments for options...

well. I've not really done anything to it since I got the plastics and the fubard wheel. I've been working on my sonoma getting it ready for next year with some more interior paint and I'm having the flames restriped to match the nitrous bottle. since the original striping is over the clear, I'm wetsanding them off which takes forever but I dont want to burn through the clear. but mainly with the holidays and it being our first at our house, and working 60ish hours a week, time is almost n/a lol.

I'm aiming at jumping on it once the truck is completed for the local World of Wheels and the wife pops our 1st out (inducing her the 12th of jan)

Congrat's brother thumbsup2 Life is going to be....uuummm different. Want some advice...OK maybe not but when has that ever shut me up hahaha This is a perfect time to find another bike. But make it a PB and paint it to match your B1. Stay with me on this one....That ones for the tike. I know it'll be a couple years before he/she's rippin' it but that just the hook. How can the wife deny you when you want the youngin' involved already. I knw I know low down and sneaky but it's one of those I should da. My daughter rides now and if I'd done that a long time ago I'd have more toys and getting stuff for them would be easier when I'm buying for the little speed demon bluelaughbluelaugh and not me wink wink. Oh last but not least at this message after you read it we can't let out this little secret.

HAHAHA oh ya! thats a perfect idea!!!

I have an old pedal car fire truck that I need to pickup and I'm going to basically put it on the ground and sheetmetal the inside so she can sit in it at shows and we can roll her around in it hahhaa.

I'm FOR SURE getting another PB and doing just that! hahaha thats awesome!!

Well..........time for an update.

After getting the the project rolling and semi-ridable, I lost interest in it and decided to focus on on my project truck, my sonoma. (which can be seen in my first magazine feature here: http://gaugemagazine.com/2009/October/GMCSonoma.htm)

The bike is still within walking distance, but a young fella, (15) who lives in my subdivision has always always loved it. Sooooo....I gave it to him, in exchange for some yard mowing and weed eating (working 65 hours a week here and there leaves little time to WANT to mow the yard lol). I've been giving him guidance and advice. He snagged a perfect front wheel/tire. I swapped over the disc. He got all the brake parts, and new tree and somehow managed to find a tank cover. That's all on now. The bike has been to his uncle's house (nice straight country road in front of it) in which i had the pleasure of taking my show truck down there so they could see it and I opened that 110cc up. Man that felt great. I'll get some pics shortly. I'll end up with another in the future of my own.

Family wise, wife and lil one are doing great. lil one is growing so fast, she's just over 9 months now, pulling herself up on everything to stand up and crawling like it's nobodys business. 2 of her favorite words are heeeeyyyy daaaaaaad haha.

Hope everyone is well!
