Thanks dna, it's not all that complicated, once you start in you'll learn alot and start figuring out little mods that will make it better and more unique to you..

Bro thats the way I got it, I havent even begun to paint it LOL... That mess thats on it is the way it was when I picked it up.....I wouldn't even think about making a mess like that LOL....

The deconstruction begins.... Gonna start reworking the swingarm, removing the slopping rubber bushings , I'll be using solid bronze bushings inside a new sleeve/spacer that will get welded into the swingarm..

This is gonna be pretty mild, just gonna do a few mods, rework some stuff so it is solid and works better, get it all cleaned up... Prob add a few goodies like an exhaust of course, maybe a hyd clutch, better brakes and rotors...

Sounds like a good clean simple build. You should do a road racing theme... I always see you make badass drag bikes but i wanna see what you can do with a road race/moto gp bike. Just simple mods would so this, slicks, dual brakes, stiffer rear shock, a badass custom exhaust and a badass paint scheme. But thats just my twocents
Goodluck with the build!!!

Thanks for the comps and the interest in my projects, I dunno what happened to me, when I bought my kids thier first PB's about 2003 or 2004 I got hooked... I used to spend all my time on cars but just find the bikes to be more fun anymore.. I have a 1940 Chevy in the garage in pieces and just can't get the enthusiasm to do anything with it, mainly after the gas prices went sky high and now with work so unpredictable, getting layed off every few weeks I just let the car set..Seriously thinking about selling it or parting it out to make more room in the garage..

Yeah this definately wont be a drag bike LOL..... I'm actually getting alittle burnt out on the x12 drag bike, I started too many mods at one time and then one thing led to another, seemed like I made 1 step forward and then 2 steps back on the progressbanghead... This one will be pretty simple, just a nice clean bike with a few mods to make it different.... I may look into doing a moto scheme... I hate cigerettes but always liked the Camel bikes scheme... I'll have to look at some race bikes on the net and get some ideas...
What real bike do you guys think the X15 most resembles??......

10-03-2008, 01:44 PM
I wouldn't worry too much about the wheels......... you already have a good set to work with right there and nothing seems wrong with them.
Besides........... too much of the rim is hidden by the rotors anyway to really be noticed since these rims are only 10"
Don't get me wrong........... a new set of rims would be nice as I really wish there were a selection to choose from.......... I'm just saying why spend more money where you really don't have to? dunno

yeah I hear ya on the $$ thing, if I can come across a set someone wanted to trade for the extra set of x15 wheels I have I'd consider that but as far as buying some right now is not on the table...What really sucks, I sold two sets of x6 wheels a few months back..one was a really heavy duty version with athicker hub around the sprocket bolts, must have been a second generation wheel.banghead

this will be a full build, he cant go halfway
have you seen him do any mild builds? no
sorry to hear the x12 has waned, just wrap it up, nutty got him self in the same jam, too many mods at once
really sorry to hear bout your '40, i know its very hard to let go of something like that
its one of those times that you just have to be honest with your self and ask, am i ever gonna finish this? do i want to finish it now?
if its no, then try to find someone who will appreciate it and take over
i had plans to redo my 77 starfire, its now literally a hedge at my moms house, im that jeff foxworthy joke about mowing the yard and finding a car
i , like you, got hooked on these bikes...bad
when i was young i always wanted a tomos moped, i never got it, i think this fills that 2wheel need, i also had a few big bikes in the day
the older i get, the more i realize i need to do stuff now, not later
so hook that bike up like its your last....it might be <-----to all you G's

I won't go overboard on this one like I did the X12, basically a rebuild with a few upgrades and fix some of the crappy chinese stuff like the rubber swingarm bushings and the tweaked frame where the swingarm mounts to...
Yeah when I was a kid there was a moped out that looked like a cafe racer, dont remember the name of it but it was badazz. shoot back then it was near a grand if I remember right............ I guess I'm with you on the PB's filling the need LOL.... Just like to work on these lil things, don't know why, guess it is an inner child thingy going on....
Hey that starfire, is it a V8?... About 20 years ago I built an 80 Chevy monza with a 283 v8 4 speed and then I had a 78? buick skyhawk with the Road Hawk package, pulled the v6 and dropped in a warmed over 305 and a 5 speed, I put a monza spider interior in it.... those were both fun cars....

well I was getting some sandblasting done today on the 19, got the swinger blasted, ground out and welded the crack in the side rail near the shock mount, ground the weld down and reblasted it.... I blasted the lower legs of the frt forks as I'm gonna repaint them and not polish them.. Theframe is about a 1/3 done but my sandblaster kept plugging up with moisture so I quit for the day.... Thinking about calling in a favor from a friend that works at the rail yard where they work on trains, see if he can finish blasting the frame, he owes me a fav for fiberglassing his saddle bags on his Harley back in the spring.....
Before starting the blasting today I called Pocketbikeparts.com to see what was up with my body parts, well the red I ordered was no longer available... nice of them to tell me when I ordered last week so I could pick a new color, now I'll be waiting til next week to get them in Nutty-Rant.... I wanted to get them mocked up on the frame before I started any priming and painting in case I need to make new mounts or anything.... Well thats gonna hold things up a bit and our weather is getting colder and colder, not sure how much longer I'll have to do any painting yet this year...
I'll post some inprogress pics later..

Here are some of the parts I blasted yesterday.... The swingarm had one of those vommon cracks for the x15 and x19 bikes... I ground out the crack with my cut-off wheel and then welded it up..... I probably should have looked for a new swingarm as this one the shock mount was welded in about an 1/8" off on one side... I'd just cut it out and reweld it but it's welded inside as well and I can't get my cut-off wheel in there to grind down the welds...
I blasted the lower legs on the forks so I can repaint them... Not sure what color yet? either silver or gold? The real Benelli Tornado has gold forks...
I gotta get the frame done next and then shoot it with epoxy primer and then silver again..

I had the same problem with mine!
I put the frame on end, placed a floor jack inside the frame with a couple small pieces of wood, and then put the jack to work so it would bend (or push out) just enough of that subframe so I could get the engine in to fit.

too late, the frame has been wacked..... I couldnt bend it enough to clear the 3 valve head, the fins and valve caps are too big and hit the frame.... I'm gonna rebuild the frt sub.... No biggie, just a step back....thumbsup2

Thats what I'm aiming for, simular to the pic I posted above of the real Benelli... That bike is so sharp.....
The body panels I ordered were supposed to be red but after a week I find out they don't have any more red so I got the green instead,,,,, It all worked out, I was kinda wishing I'd gotten the green anyways as the Benelli is green plus we already have one red bike......
I have the lower sub welded back in, looks simular to the x15 frame now... The lower sub is basically just for somewhere to weld the body mounts, I don't think it adds much strength to the frame....... thinking_smilie
I have to wait til the body panels get here now so I can put them on the bike and determine where the lower mounting tabs will have to be welded in...
more to come.......................

No worries Shooter,
I called today and some girl answered, put me on hold a few times and comes back, I tell her I ordered the parts two weeks ago, I called last week to check on the status just to find out they dont have the color I wanted so I had to pick a new color and it's been another week.... Everything looks good except the cheesy paint, I was hoping the paint would look good enough to run as is but it's gonna have to get sanded down and resprayed... The body lines look horrible (casting marks) so I'll have a lot of blocking to do over the winter to get it all straight and clean...
One thing I didn't realize is that the tail light is just a dummy, no light at all in it... WELLLLLL that is gonna change... some pvc pipe, plastic welder and a hole saw and I'll have a working light when it's all done with a brake light thumbsup2......... Well the body kit finally arrived today YEAHHH MEE...
Now I gotta locate a headlight and my body kit will be complete...
sweet. man it took them long enough, cant wait to see more pics

did you get the actual rear lens or is it just black and grooved?
i had to reuse my lens, when i had power in my bike, i cut a hole there and glued in a double filiment socket for the brakes
it did work and look good

yeah my hyd clutch came from Hong Kong in a tad over a week, these knuckle heads took almost 3 weeks from Fla to Ohio thumb_down
sweet. man it took them long enough, cant wait to see more pics These definately need some work, they are in perfect shape as far I can see for cracks and what have ya but the castings are pretty sloppy, the body lines are all wacked and will need a lot of straightening out to look right... Ahh well I have all winter...

Glad to hear you finally got your parts but sorry to hear it had taken so long.
You got the chrome-plated plastic exhaust tips and the black piece that goes around that too right?
Just making sure you ain't missin' nuttin'.
I think you're gonna have to drill open some of those holes too.
The only things I think you don't get are the vent screens........ but that can be easily taken care of dunno
BTW......... did you ever get that discount card they said they were going to give you?

Yep got all those parts, may not use the chrome part if I do a side exhaust, I'll just throw some mesh in there like Blitz$ did on his to give it the look of a radiator like the real deal..
Mesh will work on the frt screens too, I need some for the x12 anyways so I'll pick up a big enoug piece to do it all...
Don't see any discount card unless it's in the bottom but I have a feeling I didnt get one...dunno
Where the sides and the lower fairing scome together will need drilled out a bit and then I'll probably put clip nuts on those spots, the frame brackets are getting lock nuts welded to them for the other body bolts thumbsup2
Thanks again Shooter for the link, they are slow but everything looks good, thats the important thing...

The frame is plenty strong , The x15 is the same frame but without those down tubes, actually this frame is even heavier duty than the x15 due to the bigger, more massive engine mount.... Blitz$ did an endo on his at the races and the frame was good.... I don't plan on dirt biking it, it's just a cruiser... If I think I'm reading this right.......... you mean that "s" shaped part that the swingarm bolt goes through, right?
If this is correct then I know what you're trying to say.
Reinforcing those welds a bit and maybe boxing in that area would help?
If these bikes can be stunted and abused and the frames still hold up..... I don't think we'll have much of a problem to worry about.
It's the stock swingarm that leaves me a little jittery.

yea thats what im talking about but also another part that worried me is how it has 2 tubes runnin from the neck and the lower tube is basically running the same path as the top tube and not adding strength to it like it could if it were done differently which is why i say the down tubes are highly needed for support....im sure if it didnt have the down tubes and you set the front wheel down hard enough it would bend those 2 parallel tubes

Actually the lower tube has two bends in it which add structural support... Plus on the x19 frame the engine mounts is more like a cradle that supports the swingarm and ties the top and lower frame together, so actually this frame is more solid than an X15 (No disrespect Blitz$). If the x15 holds up okay without the down tubes this frame should be plenty solid and like I said it's just a cruiser and not a stunt or race bike.
I have to agree with Shooter on the swingarm, those are pretty cheesy on both the X15 and X19...

Well I put the x12 off to the side for a few and was messing with this one... I put the 110 3V on the frame and bolted the headpipe on, wouldn't ya know it hits the clutch lever on the engine since the 3V has a rear mounted clutch... Well I started bending the headpipe so it angles up more and away from the lever, so far I think I can make the headpipe work with a new extension pipe to the muffler.... I've pretty much decided to make a muffler for it, tuck it up under the body and run dual outlets through the twin exhaust cutouts in the body.... This muffler will be simular in design as the flowmaster style I built for the x12 except this one will be a tad longer with some internal differences... The mufflers demensions will be approx 2"x 5"x 7.5"...
