I wanted to get an aftermarket air filter but when I looked at my stock one, there is a little tube going from the filter to what apears to be the transmission(if i followed it right). Do the aftermarket filters have a spot for that little hose or will ditching the hose be ok? I have no idea what it does

it is an emissions tube, or, crap
get a new filter
leave it hooked up to the motor case and cut the hose so its about 5-6 inches and point it straight down to the ground
make sure it isnt kinked or blocked, it is the case breather tube for the motor

Thanks a lot man I will do that!
That tube sucks the heat from the crankcase...on the aftermarket pod style airfilters you can cut a small hole in the element and rtv it in place with a small dab.on k&n styles with the top cover you can tap in a brass barb to hook it in..Or you can make a small extension tube;-tap it with a 1/4" NPT pipe tap and screw the brass barb into the pvc and add filter to the end of that.......On one of my setups I drilled a hole in the top valve cover cap ran the line back to the rear breather tube and tee'd it in with a 1/4" brass tee and brought that around to the extension tube with brass barb........
If you leave that tube open and you store it for the winter it will help aid the formation of condensation in the crankcase............Peace
