View Full Version : VIR have a plan to win!!!

I know that with the excitement of the coming storm most guys going to VIR are just working on their rides and planning the trip. What most racers forget is to plan what happens on the track also. Most WSBK and MotoGp guys actually play video games of the tracks as part of their prep. VIR isn't in any video games I know of so maybe this is the next best thing. Track map provided by Blitz Racing.

Note to self: Don't get sucked in on the downhill run. Getting in to deep will make me run wide remember there are other forces working the bike.

You won't believe it Np but i watch those vids plus the one Kevin put up of the motards religiously(every night before i go to bed)I have even practiced riding like i was going through the S's to see how the bike will respond(at high speeds).I have what i think is a great plan for the S's.I'm hoping to really shave some time off my laps through there.Plus i've been playing the heck out of motogp 3 for the playstation and tourist trophy the 2 greatest motorcycle simulation games out there.(IMO)Even before i go to sleep i'm on that track doin some laps.Oh plus the Matt and Ben at laguna seca race.I'm not saying i'm gonna win but if i don't do extremely well.At the end of the race i'm gonna take my bike out to the parking.Lift it straight up over my head then slam it to the ground.angry_red

I think we will all benefit from this so when the mid/superbikes get on the track.I want the people watching and saying DAMN those bikes ain't bad. They can actually throw down some good lap times maybe i'll think about getting one.Boom that's how it starts.LOL

YOu guys are welcome to pitch a tent where-ever (its a mans right aint it?) We normally have 1 or 2 extra tents, depending on how many fastline members show up. If you can fit more then 2 people in one tent with bikes i would be very surprisedPoke12

Depends what time you get there or if you wanna sacrafice your lunch time to walk the track. Its not the paint that makes those curbs sketchy, its the ditch that seperates them from the tarmac. Its not that bad but it wakes you up when you hit one. Not completely rideable but they wont make you wreck if you keep your head up
i wonder if im gonna have to pay more to role with the other midbikers if they get there own class

Why would you have to pay more? Its a flat fee for the whole weekend. I keep telling you that and yet you continue to think you pay per class.

Friday will be mostly open practice, we might run a fun heat if that. Friday is the day to learn, saturday is the day to get your grid position, sunday is the day to prove yourself.

I forgot to mention rule number one. MAKE A LIST! of all the things you think you'll need and check them off as you load up. I throw a few things on the floor and snapped a shot. Believe it or not everything you see I've had to use at one time or another. Some of these you might think of some you might not. Some seem obvious but you would be surprised what guys forget on their way to the track:
Blanket or tarp for ground cover. It's cooler than working on hot pavement in a pit or parking lot. It also keeps the dirt and dust down if you have to work in the grass.
Manual pump. These thing don't break and don't need electricity or having to wait for the pressure to build and it's light enough to take anywhere on the track (BackUP).
Rachet tiedown. Regular tiedowns loosen with the bike moving around during transport.
Extension cord. The track might have power but if you can't get it to were you need it that's like not having it.
Power inverter. No power at the track? All you need is a couple charged car batteries and you're good.
Small plug in lamp or flashlight. I have both. Flashlights always run down right when you're looking for that washer you dropped inside the intake.
Electric impact wrench. Faster repair or part changes. If you have to re-gear with sprockets it's alot faster with that. Battery powered is also an option.
Tire pressure gauge. You bought the right tires but they're crap without the right pressure.
Cordless drill with a spare battery. Anybody that has one won't ask why you should take one.
Gas cans...you'd be surprised how many people forget to put them on the trailer...oh this isn't 1:1...in the back seat or trunk.
Small stool. Working on your bike on your knees makes for a sore rider.
Loctite blue. Hose clamps. Teflon tape. 100mph tape (See below crowbar). Funnel. Paint brush for clean up. Zipties.
Lighter...torch...or both. Helps if you have to deal with eletrical problems or bad tent rope.
Crowbar. Have to fix wreck damage somehow.
Brake fluid. Racing put more demands on your system than a trot around the hood. If you have air in the lines you're going to need extra.
Electrical line tester. Not much wire on a race bike but it would be nice to find the broken wire when you have a gremlin.
Belt dressing is for guys like me who are dumb enough to run a auto bike.
Tape measure. If you have to adjust your suspension trackside one of these can be very handy.
Extra oil for that stuff that's blow past the rings...You're on your way out of the weekend with this one but maybe not.
Extra motor battery. If you're running a total lost system, while you're running one in the bike you can be charging another with the charger you brought and the inverter or trackside power. I know it's sounds dumb to use a pre-charged car battery to charge your bike battery, but you do what you got to do?
Last but not least the humble broom. Sweep the area were you plan to keep your bike. Kneeing down on a rock or a piece of glass within the first 30 minutes of your weekend can make the rest of the stay suck. Ask me how I know...go ahead ask me. twocents

I could have added items for the bike but I was in a hurry as usual. Don't forget extra brake and clutch levers if you have them. Clipons are a good thing to have too. Anything you can break off or damage so badly in a wreck that you can't ride is worth having extra's.

Old race trick for tech. Catch cans get busted up all the time so people were always grabbing whatever was at hand. Believe me your bottle isn't the first one like that. Any one have kids? Mine drinks those juice bottles that have the little plasic top that molded onto the bottle. The kid twist it off. It's a one time open and drink you can't replace it.To the point...I used one of those and knew if they could easily tell what it was I wouldn't pass tech. I asked for help because I was just going to wrap duct-tape around itand hope for the best. Old guy told me that was the surest way to not pass. He took a can of spray paint, masking tape, and a Dunlop sticker and took me to school. He taped a bottom portion of the bottle. About 1 1/2 inches. Then he spray painted the bottle. I can't remember the color I just remember it was dark (Like blue or black). When the paint dried he removed the tape and you could see into the bottom part of the bottle. Well you could see enough to know if there was fluid in it. Then he applied the decal to the bottle and mounted it on a spot on the front on the bike and ran a hose to it. It looked like I bought it. Of course a close inspection might have gottin' me a few knowing looks but I breezed through. Hey Blitzthrow them for a loop and paint the bottle and put a Red Bull sticker on it bluelaugh moon1 bluelaugh moon1

few people pick up on that
no i havent ran a drag track yet, thats what i really want to do
depends on the gearing for get up

Say hey to the kids and the Mrs for me. I hope they have fun too. Your wife was right there are a hell of a lot of bikes stolen at race meetings. With a Mid it's small enough to keep close. I pity the fool who trys me a second time. I won't be as nice as the first.

I left my bike outside locked up like crazy. No rednecks stealing my bike.
