Hey guys, I am starting to get into racing my X18 and so im going to be modding a few things on my bike. I hope to get the bike in decent shape for a beginner track bike as well as it performing a little better on canyon runs. I plan on tackling the body, suspension, exhaust, and attempt to use 1:1 MotoGP parts.thumbsup2 I cant wait to start this build! haha i have been buying a lot of parts off ebay and i should start to receive everything in the next couple weeks. I will be posting as i get more parts as well as doing a few custom pieces myself. Please do not spam/fight in this thread. Hope you guys enjoy my bike!!!
My new body kit just arrived this afternoon!!

Well i finally got my new exhaust set up as well as my new rear shock. Its not much now but after some customizing i should be able to make it look nice and clean while hopefully gaining some performance.

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u95/littlemarchy/X18shock.jpg
1. The SDG exhaust muffler and and header were ordered off ebay for $23 shipped. (I wrapped the can with some black tint and printed out the yoshimura decal as a template so i can see what it will look like)
2. The Yoshimura Cherry Bomb was given to me for free by one of my buddies with a 1:1 bike. I already know it wont work with our midbikes but i might or might not incorporate it into the bike for looks (kind of a yosh theme).
3. The Rock Shox rear shock was purchased from Mishka for $28 shipped. Im hoping this will make my bike ride a little stiffer, and handle a little better. Im not 100% sure but i think im going to put my stock x18 black spring onto the new rock shock (I think thats what everybody has been telling me to do)
3. The CBR side exhaust bracket was purchased off of ebay for $6 shipped. This will definitely look nice on the bike as well as support the exhaust and make sure it doesnt rattle.
Total cost for my custom Yoshimura Rep. side pipe = $35 :)
For some reason i cant post the pics straight on here...anyone know why?

So i started to mock up the new x7 kit and the new exhaust. Ill get better pics once i can actually start to work on it. Swheels, If you could i would greatly appreciate all of the pics you have of your bike that would help me position the new body on my bike. Also i appreciate any tips on what i will need to cut, reposition, etc.

I gotta cut both of the side fairings to fit around the engine, as well as cut the seat mounts, the tank mount, and then reposition a few wires and internal parts, etc. The X7 kit is alot narrower.

Here's some pics 49cc .The right side fairing and the speedo mod...Look at the speedo close you have to remove some of the bracket so you can still turn right and left..I just used some spacers I had around the shop to do it.
Ghost Rider
10-03-2008, 10:46 PM
good idea with the spacers.
On the lower fairing, did you use the original hole on the body and line it up with the x18s lower bracket(like where the x18 body mounted up) Or did you just drill new holes or what?

I got the whole kit mounted up and fitted. I just need to cut the existing stock x18 seat brackets then make 2 new ones and put the x7 seat on . Then make 2 upper body tabs in place of where the zip ties are. Another thing i got done was the new Rear shock. it took me about an hour to do and i can already feel a difference by just sitting on it. I'll be racing it next weekend at Rialto, so i wont be able to get the side exhaust done in time. Ill just have to stick it out with the stocker. Last things to do before the race is: install steel braided clutch cable, add fork oil to the front and do an oil change. Whacha think?!?!

what paint did you use for the rims?
swheels
10-15-2008, 07:13 PM
You should try to mount the fairings so you have atleast 2'' of clearance for the front tire from the lower front of the fairings.Cuz if you go to an aftermarket front it will rub the lower front fairing for sure.thumbsup2

With the jet kit you will definately be able to get the carb set closer to the stock engine... Unfortunately those stock carbs are wierd sizes and finding needles and pilot jets is not so easy if possible at all....Personally I'd recommend one of the 26mm taper bores for now, you will need more air and fuel flow with the pipe, I have one on my son's stock 110 semi auto with a pipe and it runs good, a little cold blooded but after she's warm it's good...

So i finally got to ride the bike today...runs great,no more bouncing around, alot stiffer ride, no rattling or anything. Im getting the new seat tabs welded on tomorrow, and my buddy with the GSXR600 is going to help me align the rear wheel, repsol-lube the chain, and align the new rear shock so everything is 100% perfect. One thing thats still bugging me is the clutch cable. I have like 3 different cables and none of them work right, One is okay but doesnt engage all the way. If im gonna be riding this on the street, im gonna need a strong cable that will keep me still even with the bike in gear.
Oh and i sent in the application/$28 fee for my license plate so i should be getting it within a couple weeks. As soon as it gets here ill be spending my time down in the canyon on some twistiesthumbsup2
Anybody know where i can get some whitish blue bulbs for the x7 headlights? There different than the x18's light and look to be easier to get a brighter setupdunno

I tried! bluelaugh Once it warmed up it would cut off. So I took the top end off and found more confirmation that this poor bike had a hard life. The piston and cylinder had grooves. And the piston was really discolored from blow-by. So I'm shipping out the top end to TCR (YSR gurus) to bore it out. With the overbore and new piston I should be good to go for a little while. After I break it in I'll change out the clutch while I replace the kickstarter that the previous owner hacked off.
Sorry about the thread-jack. :)

I know exactly what you mean nuttyP...and in person it looks badass. But for some reason when i take side shot pics it comes out weird looking. The front nose fairing comes out looking way smaller in proportioned to the rest of the body. Itll look more like it does in person when i take a video.
Also it looks like i got a big gap between the nose and the front fender....i got put an oil cooler or something to close that gap!

They go rich off throttle. Even with my oringal 2 foot long exhuast system it would shoot flames w/ stock carb. keeps people off your tail, like some spy hunter technology. Very nice lookin bike man. But some real tires!! Those zhong's are terrible terrible tires.

The rear tire is a Maxxis but yes im still stuck with the front stocker. As far as the headlights, im leaving them as is for now. The bike is more for local riding/canyon riding anyways. It will still see the track but only a few times a year. And when i do go ill just either tape over it or take em out.

Update on the bike:
-Lower right panel was cut to fit around the new exhaust
-New extended axle adj. nuts
-Rear shock got re-adjusted and cleaned up(I threw on a Showa sticker cuz it looks way better)
-Exhaust was tightened up and i had to install a small restrictor in the tip to give it a little more back pressure (it kinda makes the exhaust whine a little but it actually sounds pretty good in person) Now it accelerates much better yet i still have it screaming at top end! Oh and it still spits out blue flames when i let off the throttle after holding down a high speed.
...and i threw in a new spark plug, changed the oil, cleaned the air filter, and just finished waxing the body!!! I guess you can say it got its 100mile servicethumbsup2
