I have heard runnig over a 17 toothed sprocket is a bad Idea,if the chain came off there it will crack something.Something like that.

Yup it would probably crack the case covers. I thought about making my own out of carbon fiber, so I can customize them to my liking and clearance.
over 18 teeth wont even fit. running an 18 is also a bad idea twocents because if the chain derails or breaks then it could destroy your motor when it slaps up against it.

that looks like a 2 smoke sprocket and as mentioned about a 20 wont fit, 18 is not really a good idea as it puts the chain too close to the engine case, if the chain jumps, kiss your engine case GOOD BYEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!....I wouldn't go any bigger than a 17 and maybe a 28 rear with a healthy 125 or bigger....With a 110 I'd stay with 17/38 17/37 depending what rear sprocket the bike has stock....Just because the smaller rear and bigger frt you go does'nt mean the faster you'll go, you gotta have the H.P to twist those gears or you'll put too much drag on the engine and trans.......

i am running an 18t front sprocket, and a 33t rear sprocket on my X7 with a modified OGM Lifan 140cc 4spd and if the chain does brake it would only crack the case covering the IRK at the most and the IRK company says that it has protection against broken chain problems by redisigning or relocating certain parts. i would use one of my other sprockets a 14t, a 15t, a 17t, but the only sizes of rear sprockets i can find for the X7 4 strokes are a stock 37t, a 33t, and a 22t rear sprocket. i would love to run like a 17t front and a 28t rear sprocket but i simply dont have the choice, they dont make a 28t rear sprocket for the X7. and the 22t rear sprocket is small. i suppose i could shorten the chain using 2 masterlinks (so i could lengthen it to regular length if i wanted to) and then use a 15t front and the 22t rear. that would make it little faster with a little less torque, but this engine has more torque in 1st gear than any other 4 stroke engine ive ever had, but it could still be easily overgeared just by adding a few teeth to the front sprocket. not to mention that i like the feel of this gear ratio for everyday riding (18t front, 33t rear). oh and the front sprocket has no cover over it. my old cover didnt fit and i never bothered to get a new one yet despite a couple jeans thru front sprocket incidences, but it didnt do any damage to me or the bike. i just have to remember to watch my shoelaces and baggy jeans. the 18t/33t combo is by far my favorite ratio so far for this setup because it has plenty of torque to wheelie easily and accellerates and pulls real hard thru all the gears, shifts great and smooth and has a remarkable top speed and gets there pretty quickly. so why change it. i have a nice chain. i hope i never have to really find out what would happen if it broke. ive broken chains on other bikes before with no problems, but the biggest front sprocket ive broken a chain on was a 17t and it did no damage. come to think of it all the chains ive broken were all the black chains. i havent broken a gold chain yet. which is the chain on my X7. but there is a 1st time for everything. i hope not.
