It is not necessary to switch to a synthetic at any point, however it may offer benefits after break-in. 10w30 and 10w40 are very common. I run Mobil 1 MX4T 10W40 in my engines after break-in. Many others swear by Motul Oils. Still others run a cheaper conventional oil for the life of their engine.
Another tip: You can get a magnetic oil drain plug or just make your own. This helps collect metal shavings from the oil.(this is normal)wtf
Here is the link for those oil plugs http://www.scooterpartsrus.com/4_stroke_engine.htmthumbsup

Here's the link rene posted (Great find, rene :) ) :

It's a good idea. It is normal for there to be tiny particles of metal in an engine especially during break-in. This is part of engine wear. The magnetic plug will collect and allow you to remove them easily whenever you do an oil change.
These engines only have a small amount of oil in them, so it doesn't cost much to change it frequently. I'd run a good quality oil for 500km's or so, cheaper oils you would need to change more often.
On the subject of oils, I've always run my race engines in on a good quality mineral oil, then switched to a good quality synthetic. Doing this gave me a whole year of racing between rebuilds. And usually I would find very little wear in the engine at rebuild time.

i change mine too much maybe but its worth it to me
there is no oil filter, plus my block has survived 2 pistons shattering inside and ive recovered all the pieces i hope, so too much is cool with me
i used mobil1 for a long time but went to the motorcycle oil when my bike started becoming worth quite a bit

I like that idea, Blitz, re-using the oil in that way.
